Ravel Ammerman

Ravel AmmermanRavel F. Ammerman received his B.S. in Engineering (Electric Power and Instrumentation) in 1981 from Colorado School of Mines, his M.S. in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems and Control) from the University of Colorado in 1987, and his Ph.D. degree in Engineering Systems (Electrical Specialty – Energy Systems) from Colorado School of Mines in 2008. He has over 27 years of combined teaching and industrial experience. He teaches undergraduate courses on electric circuit theory, electrical machines, power system analysis, and advanced power system analysis and design. He has also been involved and actively participates in the electrical specialty field session, senior design, and undergraduate research projects. Dr. Ammerman has co-authored and published numerous technical articles on electrical arcing phenomena, electrical safety, arc flash hazard analysis, computer applications related to power systems, and engineering education. Dr. Ammerman is the co-project manager for the IEEE/NFPA Arc Flash Collaborative Research and Testing Project. Several areas of the arc flash phenomena need further research and testing validation to provide relevant information that can be used to develop safety strategies that will protect workers. The results of this project will provide information that may help more accurately predict the hazards associated with arcing faults and the accompanying arc blasts, thereby improving electrical safety standards and providing practical safeguards for employees in the workplace.
